The Federation of Public Service UGT Madrid, the Federation of CCOO labor union and the Union of Urban Cleaning and Sanitation Workers CGT vigorously reject the reduction in cleaning, gardening services announced by the Mayor of Madrid Alberto Ruiz Gallardon, manifesting against the possible lay off of more than 2,000 workers.

Just a year ago the City Council implemented a Wastes tax and raised more than 169 million euros, at the same time removing about 100 jobs from the streets of Madrid. The mayor also intends to continue cheating, saying that the slash will be compensated in the 2011 tax bill, as it is described in the informative the brochure distributed by the demonstrators at the Plaza del Sol of the Spanish capital.

The labor unions allege that the population increase the Capital had experienced in the recent years should imply an increase in services to citizens, instead the City Council intends to reduce by additional 15% the existing municipal services.
